Why Peroxide Free?

Majority of mainstream teeth-whitening products, including professional dental methods, contain peroxide. Although peroxide is proven to bleach the surface of the tooth, it also has a track record of harming long-term oral health.

What can it cause? Dentin allergies, oral mucosa (damaging the membrane lining in the mouth), irritation, hypersensitivity, burning sensations and irreversible damage to enamel

What is PAP?

For these reasons, we use a safer formula as the whitening agent - Phthalimidoperoxycaproicacid (PAP). PAP is scientifically proven as an effective whitening agent that is safer alternative to peroxide bleaching. 

Oxidation is a necessary process for whitening, as it neutralizes organic double bonds that cause discoloration in teeth. 

PAP contains a high potential of oxidation which dissolves stains that have built up on enamel surface, behind the enamel and passes through to the dentine layer, neutralising even deeper stains. Blue light technology, (used in the new USmile Whitening Kit, accelerates the PAP to help penetrate through the three layers of teeth, to access deeply entrenched discolouration. This cleans and restores teeth on three levels, unlike any peroxide-based products. Also, PAP  doesn’t release free radical oxidization.  This means there is zero impact on gums or enamel.

Does it really Work?

Yes. It is proven by multiple scientific dental studies, including reports by the Journal of Applied Oral Science and Elsevier, that high concentration PAP-based whitening agents are as effective as hydrogen peroxide-based products. The studies also show that PAP is less harmful to enamel and oral health, than peroxide products. The JAOS study showed 59% of all examined teeth saw an improved colour after one use, in just 24 hours. Whereas hydrogen peroxide-based treatments rely on multiple use for similar results. Studies show that 5% PAP is equivalent to 3% peroxide; meaning you need more of a good thing to do the job. PAP whitens teeth just as well as peroxide, without the risk to enamel and dentine health.
